On Saturday, Sept. 26, Olympic figure skaters and young local talent will partake in the 8th annual Stars, Stripes, and Skates ICEtravaganza, which honors the memory of Sept. 11, and benefits The Heritage Foundation of 9/11. The show will take place at 7:30 p.m. at the Danbury Ice Arena in Danbury, CT.
Skaters and presenters in past events have included figure skating legends such as 1994 Olympic gold medalist Oksana Baiul, 1994 Olympic silver medalist Nancy Kerrigan, three-time U.S. Champion Johnny Weir and 2006 Olympic silver medalists Tanith Belbin and Ben Agosto.
This year's show will feature the same caliber of skaters. In addition to the world-class roster, young area skaters will share the ice with their idols in a performance celebrating the patriotic spirit of the United States.
"For the past eight years, Stars, Stripes, and Skates has honored the memory of those lost on Sept. 11, while celebrating future generations of talented Americans," said Tara Eve Modlin, founder of The Heritage Foundation of 9/11 and creator of Stars, Stripes, and Skates.
"We are very grateful to the skaters that have helped to make the previous shows a success, and are looking forward to another sensational show in 2009."
This is the second year in a row that the show will be held in Danbury, CT.
Local skaters wishing to participate in the show can submit a DVD or video clip of their program for consideration.
