U.S. Figure Skating Announces Sites of 2010 and 2011 Synchronized Skating Qualifying Competitions

(12/22/08) - U.S. Figure Skating has announced the sites of the 2010 and 2011 synchronized skating qualifying competitions, including Minneapolis, Minn., as the host of the 2010 U.S. Synchronized Skating Championships and Ontario, Calif., as the host of the 2011 U.S. Synchronized Skating Championships.

In addition to being the primary selection event for the World Synchronized Skating Championships, the U.S. Synchronized Championships crowns the U.S. champions in eight levels: juvenile, intermediate, novice, junior, senior, collegiate, adult and masters.

The 2010 event, hosted by the Twin City Figure Skating Association, will take place March 3-6, while in 2011 the competition will be staged by the Glacier Falls Figure Skating Club March 2-5.

Recent host cities of the U.S. Synchronized Championships include Providence, R.I. (2008), and Colorado Springs, Colo. (2007). The 2009 event will take place in Portland, Maine.

The sites of the 2010 and 2011 synchronized skating sectional championships have also been set. The 2010 Eastern Synchronized Skating Sectional Championships will be held Jan. 28-30, 2010, in Lowell, Mass., and the 2010 Midwestern & Pacific Coast Synchronized Skating Sectional Championships will be held together in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Jan. 28-30.

Lake Placid, N.Y., will play host to the 2011 Eastern Synchronized Skating Sectional Championships, Feb. 3-5, 2011. The sport will return to the state of Minnesota in 2011, when Rochester will host the 2011 Midwestern & Pacific Coast Synchronized Skating Sectional Championships, Feb 3-5, 2011.

The top finishers from each of the three sections qualify for the U.S. Synchronized Championships.
